Methoni's beautiful sandy beach and the maginificent Venetian fort is just a 5 minute walk from the Ulysses. Plan on spending several hours to tour this fortress. Spectacular views and emotional scenery ! Absolutely breathtaking ! You should definitely visit it ! 

Voidokilia - 25 km

Voidokilia has been voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. In the shape of the Greek letter omega (Ω), its sand forms a semicircular strip of dunes. The land facing side of the strip of dunes is Gialova Lagoon, and important bird habitat. The beach has been named "A Place of Particular Natural Beauty" and it is considered a protected area hosting 258 species of birds out of which the 79 are included in the "Red Book" (species under threat of extinction). The beach is presumed to be Homer's "sandy Pylos" where Telemachus was welcomed by King Nestor when searching for his father, Odysseus. According to myth, Nestor's Cave is where Hermes hid the cattle stolen from Apollo. 

Finikounda - 9 km

Finikounda has been built right at the point where the beach ends, offering a spectacular view. The seafront is full of traditional taverns serving fresh fish caught by local fishermen. You can explore several water sport activities such as windsurfing, sailing or mountain biking. The road from Methoni to Finikounda, offering the visitor a seaside route of unique attraction. Lambes and Mavrovouni are two very beautiful beaches, you should definitely visit !

Kotronakia - 1 km

The east end of Methoni beach, known as "Kritika", is the ideal spot to swim and have a refreshing drink while you enjoy the Ionian sunset.

Sapientza island - 5 km

These secluded beaches, just across the bay from Methoni can only be accessed by boat. The islands of  Sapientza, Agia Marina, and Schiza are inhabited by pheasants, partridges, wild goats and she eps. Not far away from the island of Sapienza there is the deepest point of the Mediterranean sea, with a depth of 5,121 meters. Boat trips around these islands can be taken daily.

Nestor Palace - 28 km

King Nestor  (13th century BC) was one of the Achaean chieftains who, according to the Iliad, went with his fleet of 90 black ships to Troy to wrest Menelaus' wife Helen back from Paris, and was one of the few to return safely. He is described by Homer as wise, a peacemaker, and is said to have lived to over a hundred. His palace has a stunning view to the Ionian sea and it is the best preserved Mycenaean Greek palace discovered.

Polilimnio Waterfalls - 28 km

These beautiful waterfalls are just a 35 minute drive from Ulysses hotel. P0lilimnio is made up a series of waterfalls and deep pools running down a picturesque gorge. A perfect place to visit during the summer heat to cool down and refresh in the crisp mountain water.

ancient messini - 77 KM

Messini is an ancient city with one of the biggest theatres in the ancient world, a large agora, temples, tombs and a large gymnasium converted by the Romans into an arena.

The Theatre of Messini  was built in the 3rd-2nd century B.C. and is one of the greatest of antiquity. The amplitude reaches 98.60m. and the diameter of the orchestra is 23.46m. It was used for entertainment of citizens, but also for political gatherings.

The Theatre of Messini was renovated and reopened its doors to the public in August 2013 after a “silence” of 1700 years.
